Chlorophyll (E140)

Halal status: Source dependent

The natural green colouring found in plants, listed as chlorophyll or E140. MUIS marks it doubtful and notes that solvents such as ethanol are used to extract it. SANHA lists it as halal but says to check whether it contains alcohol. Authorities differ, so the stricter view is shown. A halal mark on the pack settles it.
