Halal status: Source dependent

A white mineral also called chalk, listed as calcium carbonate or E170. MUIS marks it doubtful and notes that it may come from a natural mineral or from animal bones. SANHA lists it as halal, made from minerals. Authorities differ, so the stricter view is shown. A vegan claim or a halal mark on the pack settles it.
