Halal status: Mashbūh (doubtful)

An emulsifier made from sorbitol and palmitic acid, listed as sorbitan monopalmitate, Span 40 or E495. Halal authorities disagree about it: MUIS lists it as doubtful and IFANCA says to investigate it further, neither giving a reason, while SANHA lists it as halal. Until they are reconciled, it is shown as Mashbuh (doubtful).
