E500, the sodium carbonates, including sodium bicarbonate, sold as baking soda or bicarbonate of soda and used as a raising agent. SANHA lists E500 as halaal, a synthetic chemical made from sodium carbonate, a mineral. MUIS lists it as a mineral salt, prepared synthetically, by the Solvay process or from sea water.
