Cheese
Halal status: Source dependent
Cheese is made by curdling milk, often with rennet from an animal's stomach. Authorities differ on rennet from an animal that was not slaughtered the Islamic way: SANHA and MUIS say the cheese is then not permissible, while IIFA's 2018 answer and IslamQA say it is. IIFA and MUIS say rennet from pigs is haram. The stricter view is shown. A halal mark on the pack settles it.
