Casein

Halal status: Source dependent

The main protein in milk. SANHA warns that casein may contain animal enzyme material, and SANHA rules that animal rennet is acceptable only from a halal-slaughtered animal. Whether a given casein is halal therefore depends on the enzyme used. A halal mark on the pack settles it.
