Pepsin

Halal status: Source dependent

Pepsin status depends on its source. Toronto Public Health explicitly lists pepsin as Haram when derived from pork. IFANCA lists enzymes as requiring investigation. Microbial pepsin is Halal. Porcine pepsin, which is the most common commercial form, is Haram and must be avoided.
