Halal status: Source dependent

Protease status depends on its source. IFANCA lists enzymes as requiring investigation as they may be animal-derived. Microbial and plant-derived proteases such as bromelain and papain are Halal. Animal-derived proteases require Halal certification of the source animal and slaughter method.
