Ethanol (E1510)
Halal status: Source dependent
Alcohol used in food as a solvent or carrier, listed as ethanol, ethyl alcohol or E1510. IslamQA rules that where the alcohol has no effect on the food it is added to, leaving no trace in colour, taste or odour, the food is permissible, and where its effect remains it is haram. SANHA and MUIS both mark it doubtful. A label cannot show which applies, so it needs halal certification.
