Spirit Vinegar

Halal status: Source dependent

Spirit Vinegar, also sold as white or distilled vinegar. Authorities differ. MUIS names spirit vinegar as an alcoholic ingredient that should not be added to food, while IIFA rules there is no objection to vinegar made from alcohol, SANHA that vinegar is halaal, and IslamQA that vinegar is permissible whatever it is made from. The stricter view is shown; a halal mark on the pack settles it.
