Yeast
Halal status: Source dependent
Yeast, a single-celled fungus used to raise bread. IIFA rules that yeast containing extracts from pigs may not be used, and SANHA warns that some yeast is made with whey or casein that may contain animal enzyme material, so a halal mark settles it. IslamQA rules that the alcohol yeast forms in dough, which evaporates in baking, is no reason to avoid the bread.
