Fennel, the plant Foeniculum vulgare, eaten as a bulb vegetable or used as a herb or spice; Codex lists its bulb, leaves and seed. IslamQA rules that everything that grows from the earth is permissible in principle, citing the Qur'an: “He it is Who created for you all that is on earth” (al-Baqarah 2:29).
